When it debuted in 1990, the 997 was beloved immediately. When the original model was discontinued years later, it became legendary. Today, the 997 remains one of the most sought-after models in the entire New Balance archive, especially when it reappears for special occasions. For Fall/Winter ’24, the 997 marks its first appearance in the Made in USA Seasonal Collection. The classic wedge-shaped silhouette, featuring a distinctive high set heel pad, is outfitted with classic mesh and suede construction and features in timeless core black.

Craftsmanship

The Made in USA range exemplifies craftsmanship, inside and out. Premium materials, worked by skilled craftspeople are a difference that can be seen. Comfort is a difference that can be felt. They’re style icons now, but they were created for top of the line performance. Although state of the art technology is ever evolving, they still represent the pinnacle of design and innovation.

Legacy

The 900 Series rang in the ‘90s with the release of the 997. A streamlined design sharpened the more rounded ‘80s proportions of previous models, while housing a dizzying array of performance technology. After being phased out in 1994, the 997 took on almost mythical status. The original version was not reissued in any form for well over a decade, leaving fans to scour the internet for vintage pairs in wearable condition. Today, the 997 is as legendary as ever, but thankfully, it’s also readily available.
